Birds of a Feather....Oil paintings

I love the reflection of this egret, as well as the sunset mood of the whole painting.

This one has a swampy feel to it.  You get the feeling this one is waiting for a fish to swim by.

This is a painting that I did last year.  Men immediately recognize these as wood ducks.  So that makes me happy.  I will have it with me at the Cotton District Arts Festival this Saturday in Starkville.  It went so well with the other birds that I decided to post it.

Outstanding in the Swamp.....oil painting.....#20 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days....

18x36......oil on canvas.....$775

I have taken a bunch of photos of birds in the swamp, so I couldn't tell you exactly when this was taken.  But I can tell you that it was somewhere along the Tickfaw River in Louisiana down near Baton Rouge.  As anyone in my family can tell you...."I love these long-legged birds"!

Walking Heron at Dauphin Island Oil Painting...

Dauphin Island Neighbor.....18x36........$775

I took this photo when we vacationed on Dauphin Island last year.  There is a bird sanctuary there and this guy has definitely made himself at home.  He just played it cool and walked right past me on several occasions.

IT'S ALMOST SEPTEMBER!!!!  Sunday begins the 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge I mentioned in my last post.  I work rather large sometimes and one painting may spill over into more than one day, so therefore my goal is to feature a new piece each day that has been done this summer. (And believe me 30 posts in 30 days is a challenge for me, in itself!) Whenever possible I will post a painting that I did that day, but when that is not feasible my other new work will be there to take up the slack.

MEANWHILE, we are off to New Orleans this afternoon for the Palmer Park Art Market tomorrow.  It looks like it will be a hot time in the old town!

Have a great Labor Day everyone!

Oil paintings....creatures and critters...Heron, Redfish, Crabs, Shrimp

SOLD

SOLD
These are some of the creature paintings I have done this spring.  The heron was a daily visitor during our vacation on Dauphin Island last summer.  He was quite a friendly fellow and posed on numerous occasions.
The redfish was caught by us on our deep sea fishing trip during the same vacation.  He is sort of a combination of the real thing and my own vision of him.
The crabs are known as "The Crabby Couple II"....the original crabby couple live in Shreveport and they really aren't so crabby.
The shrimp is part of an ongoing series of square paintings of shrimp, crabs, oysters and crawfish.  Cousins of this guy are scattered around all over the southeast.

Blue Heron on the Bayou....Oil Painting

"Blue Heron on the Bayou"....12x24...oil......$290(sold)
This is a painting I did for the Peter Anderson Festival in Ocean Springs. Their website is beautiful, but I have to say the way they list the artists leaves a lot to be desired. If you click on the right to see Visit our Vendors...it brings up a word document and I am on page 13 out of 14 if anyone wants to take it to that level. I would advise just look at the other stuff and skip that step. My booth is #710 and I will be in a spot off of Government between Government and DeSoto. I am going down there for something else this weekend so I will check it out and get better directions for those who are near enough to attend. It is a wonderful festival with so many talented artisans...I am just proud to be there!

Reflection....Bird standing in the water oil painting

Reflection....10x20....Oil on gw canvas....$200(sold)

I took this photo quite a while ago in an obscure area down on the coast. Thanks to my zoom lens I was able to get the shot and not disturb the bird as he peacefully stood there.

This is a paintover, a painting painted over another painting (one that didn't quite work out). The hope is that the underpainting will evidence itself in an interesting manner and therefore add to the painting that is on top. This one definitely does that. The vertical lines that you can see are texture from the underpainting and create a very interesting look...sort of like the water is coming toward you, which on the shore, it always is.

Out Standing....

"Out Standing"....24x36.....oil on canvas.....$800 ($900 Framed)SOLD

This is a revisitation of a bird that I have painted before...it is a different size and different treatment, but the same bird. I took this photo during a trip to the Tickfaw River in Louisiana.

This guy was just "out standing" in the water begging to have his photo taken.
