New Paintings for Red River Revel (Food)...oil paintings

8x16......Crawfish

12x12....Oyster on Halfshell

12x12....Crayfish Square

12x12.....Tomatoes Everywhere

12x24.....Sliced Tomatoes

8x24.....Gumbo

8x8......Pear Still Life

12x12....A Little Crabby I

This is more work that I am packing to take to the Revel (see previous posts).  You may notice that my title names these paintings in the category of "food".  Someone was looking through my print bins one day and laughed when he came across the crabs and the crawfish (as well as shrimp and oysters) in the bin labeled "food".  All I can say is he "must not be from around here".   In the South, these are most definitely food.

And now for another facet of the Revel that keeps me coming back.  I think I will call it the "neighborhood" that I am in.  Well-run shows generally try to put your booth in the same area as it was when you came before so that your customers will know where to find you.  I am lucky enough to be neighbors with an great group of folks that look out for each other and enjoy hanging out together.  When you are there for as long as we are it helps to be around nice people!

These are some wine (and one Tequila) related paintings that will be unveiled at the Red River Revel.

As I said in a previous post I plan to show new paintings each day and mention something that I particularly like about the Revel.

Today I am mentioning the staff and volunteers that take care of us there.  They are some of the nicest people you could ever want to know.  They run an organized show as far as set-up and administration goes.  And they take good care of us by having an awesome crew of volunteers feed us and bring us water and just generally check on us from time to time.  They really appreciate the artists and it is definitely not that way at every show.  So my thanks to them...I look forward to seeing them Friday!

New Work...Scenes of the South....Oil Paintings

I leave on Friday for the Red River Revel in Shreveport, La.  It is an amazing 8-day outdoor festival that is an ingrained part of the Shreveport community. Each day leading up to the start of the show, I will post some of my new work that I have been working on for the fall.  Plus, I will highlight one great thing about the Revel itself.
Today I want to mention my repeat customers.  I have several avid collectors that have now become friends.  This will be my sixth year to do this festival, plus I have done three wine festivals there.  I love having the same folks come back and visit and or buy something year after year.

Today's paintings feature scenes of the south...

Everywhere you look in the south you see quaint little white churches.  And on Sunday they're surrounded by cars.  Lots of cars.

The south would not be the south without it's myriad cottonfields.

Fishin' and huntin'.  Its what we do down here.

Ok, in the interest of  full disclosure, this is not really a shack in the south.  But it so looks like one that I can, without guilt, include it in this category.  It's actually a shack in Maui, Hawaii.

 Another quaint church.

Another great thing about the south.  Great music.

12x24......There's One in Every Crowd

12x12.......Craw Dad
One week from tomorrow I will leave to go to Shreveport for the Red River Revel, an 8-day show in Louisiana.  It is a wonderful show and I have a lot of clients there that have now become friends.  The art community there is well informed and very supportive of us "starving artists".  I have worked very hard to create new paintings for this show.  I will begin previewing them tomorrow and will post new ones every day for this next week leading up to the show.  But for today, it's all about RED.

Some Random Commissions.....Marines, Home in Oxford, Colonel Reb....Oil Paintings

20x20......USMC

20x24......Walker House in Oxford

10x20......Colonel Reb
These are just a sampling of some of the commissions that I have done in the last few months.

The USMC painting was done for a Marine veteran.  I reinterpreted the Marine "Anchor, Globe and Eagle" logo to feature the owner's own Ribbon Bar.  It makes it much more personal and he knows it was created just for him.

The house is for one of my treasured clients.  They bought an "auxiliary residence" in Oxford and wanted a painting of their new house.  The owner provided me with a sensational photo of the home and I can't help but think the painting is pretty sensational as well.

Finally, there is Colonel Reb.  There are those who miss him.  A lot.  Let's just say they can't "bear" the new mascot.  Colonel Reb with his "Hotty Toddy" background brings back fond memories for these folks.

Wine and pears go well together.  But they need cheese.  I guess I should start painting cheese.

8x24......Green Chilie

8x24.......Green Olives

8x8.....Olive You

8x8......Olive You II
I have found that many people are very pleased to be able to find bold, colorful oil paintings for their kitchens.  I have also found that sometimes I am not a very good cook, but I certainly do enjoy eating and painting food.

Streetcars.......Oil Paintings

12x24............Garden District Streetcar

8x24.......On Canal

16x20.....Riding on a Rainy Day
20x20..........#962
I love New Orleans and now that I am represented in two different galleries down there I get to paint even more NOLA related paintings.  Streetcars have always been a favorite subject for me, so I didn't really ever need a good excuse to paint them.  But now I have one anyway.

Shore 'Nuff.............Oil painting of shore bird

8x16......"Shore 'Nuff"
This is from a photo that I took from one of our vacations on Dauphin Island in Alabama.  We have been there 4 years in a row and have made plans to go back next year.  This guy definitely does not mind sharing his home with us.  He has been quite friendly.
10x30......Egret I

10x30.....Egret II
These birds we painted from photos in my collection of shorebirds and then I made up the backgrounds so that they would fit together.  I didn't use to have the confidence to just make stuff up like that, but I do it every now and then since I have gotten more miles of painting behind me.
