Rework of old work that didn't work.....

I did this painting a while back and just never did LOVE it. There was something off about it. (plus this photo is bad, so it really looks off) I liked it enough not to frisbee it into the yard, though. So the other day I decided to make a few changes and now I do love it. So there.

Sax Education 2.....

12x24.......Oil on 1.5 gallery wrap.....Sax Education 2......$290 SOLD

This is painted from a photo that I took when I was the featured artist at the Cork Wine Festival in Shreveport, La. The light in the club where the opening reception was held just made this sax glow orange. It was "at rest" during the musician's break and I just had to take a shot of it.
The painting is hanging now at the Cups Coffee House in Dogwood Market. My work is featured there throughout the month of September. I met a nice lady there today when I was hanging the show and she expressed an interest in this painting. I by accident quoted you the wrong price, as you can see, but if you are tuning in, just call me and I will honor the price I told you.
For now I am going to paint, paint, paint!

Tomato Trio Oil Painting...

Tomato Trio......10x20.....Oil on Gallery Wrap......$250 SOLD

I don't know if I had mentioned in a prior post, but I made a gallery switch here locally. It was a difficult decision, but I just felt it was something I needed to try.
Well, in the first three weeks at the new gallery I am excited to say that they sold a set of three 12x12 tomatoes, three 5x7 pears and a 10x 20 Tobasco painting.
The owner wants more fruits and veggies! So these are some tomatoes that I did for her. Hopefully we will witness a flying tomato phenomenon as they fly out of the gallery.

New Orleans Courtyard Oil Painting...

Another World.....24x36.....oil on canvas(commission)

This is a little peak into another world. A private courtyard just off the hustle and bustle of Royal Street in New Orleans. I took this photo when we were there celebrating our anniversary. I painted this just before the grandtwins arrived. It was a commissioned piece and the owner loved it. I did, too. But her opinion was more important since it will hang in her dining room.

The Grandtwins are 5 months old!

McKinley Kayleigh

The babies turned 5 months old yesterday. They have been here with us for a week and a half now and they just grow more precious every day. We have enjoyed watching the pattern of their daily lives and getting to help with the things that grandparents enjoy...bathing, feeding, playing, reading. It is a dream come true for Mike and me to have these little nuggets here with us.

Art Sale! Paintings Reduced!

I am having an art sale at my home this weekend. If you are in the Brandon area feel free to come by. I am calling it the "Out with the old---In with the new" sale. I will have some of my paintings, such as those shown here, drastically reduced.
If you see something that you love and are not in the area, feel free to email me (info in the sidebar to the right) for prices, sizes and shipping/delivery possibilites.

I have long since decided that there is no rhyme or reason to what makes a good or "sellable" painting. It just takes the right person seeing the right painting at the right time. So even though the paintings have been with me for a while and have not sold yet, they are still awesome original oil paintings. They are just looking for the right home.
(To those of you that subscribe to my blog, I apologize for the earlier post of just the title. I don't know what happened.)

Tomatoes and Tabasco....

(these paintings are sold)
These are paintings that I did for the Gumtree Festival. I have painted many tomatoes and Tabascos before, but I have sold every one of them. So "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is what I say. The tomatoes are 12 x12 on 1.5" gallery wrap canvas. The Tobasco is 12x24 on 1.5" gallery wrap. I think they even look good as a group of four.

When I return from Tupelo next week I have some commissions that I have to get right to work on, but once those are done I will have the luxury of going through my photo file and picking out what grabs me that day. I won't have to paint what I'm told or what I think will sell well. I just get to paint what I feel like painting. Now that's fun!

3 months old today!

Kayleigh

McKinley and Kayleigh

Well, I have just returned from keeping the grandtwins so that their mom and dad could go to the Kentucky Derby. Let's just suffice it to say that Granzie loved every minute of it. I am totally exhausted and would go back tomorrow in a heartbeat.

They are in the stage now where they smile at you. NO, it is not "gas" anymore, they are definitely smiling at you. Their little personalities are developing and they are so much more social.

They will just melt you. They are a little ornery when it comes to eating...read that frustrating as all hell. But they are SO good otherwise. They ar sleeping all night most nights, they do not fuss between feeding times, they sleep well and boy are they strong when it comes to body control. They have impressed their Dr. by how well they can hold their heads up and how well they can support themselves on their legs. The Drs. still expect them to be "behind" since they were born early, but they are catching up fast in every arena.
I painted a little between DoubleDecker and leaving for Kentucky, and I will try to post those tomorrow. I leave Friday for Tupelo where I will participate in the Gumtree Festival. I did well there two years ago, so I hope it will be a good one this time, too.

Doubledecker weekend a success!

Pear Varieties.....set of three......6x8......$175

Beyond Sight and Sound and Touch.........16x20........$375

These are some more of the paintings I did to get ready for Double Decker. The tree is one of those that you just have to see in person. It has that rare quality that I see in other people's paintings sometimes, in that it sort of glows. I am analyzing the steps I took to see if I can produce the effect again, but suffice it to say the real thing is WAY better than the photo.

The Pears are part of a set that are done on 1 1/2" gallery wrap canvases that are 6x8. On a canvas that small the sides are a big deal. On these I painted the sides black and white squares. They look so great hanging in a group.

The show this weekend was a success. As far as I know, every other artist that I talked to had a great show. It was my best one so far for me so I am happy. I sold 7 paintings and 17 prints. And yes it was a long day. But Dacia and Shaun (my daughter and her boyfriend) came with us and made the load much lighter.
Next I am off to Kentucky to keep the girls while son & DIL go to the Derby. I would much rather watch my sweeties than a bunch of horses, let me tell you!
